Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about eSIM plans.
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM built into your device. Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, you download a data plan directly to your phone by scanning a QR code. It works alongside your existing physical SIM.
Is my device compatible with eSIM?
Most modern smartphones support eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, and many more. Check your device settings for an 'Add eSIM' or 'Add Cellular Plan' option.
How do I install my eSIM?
After purchase, you'll receive a QR code. Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > Add eSIM, then scan the QR code. The eSIM will be installed in seconds. Make sure to enable Data Roaming for the new line.
When does my plan start?
Your plan validity begins when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination — not when you scan the QR code. You can install the eSIM before your trip.
Can I keep my phone number?
Yes. The eSIM is used only for data. Your original SIM card keeps your phone number for calls and SMS. You'll have two lines active simultaneously.
What happens if I use all my data?
When your data runs out, you can purchase a top-up plan from your account. Your eSIM remains installed — just add more data when needed.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are available for plans that haven't been activated (QR code not scanned). Once activated, plans cannot be refunded. Contact support for assistance.
Do eSIMs support calls and SMS?
Most of our plans are data-only. Some plans include calls and SMS — these are clearly marked. For voice calls, we recommend using VoIP apps like WhatsApp or FaceTime over your data connection.
Which payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Google Pay, Alipay, and WeChat Pay.
Is my connection secure?
Your eSIM connects through the same carrier networks used by local customers. The connection is encrypted and secure. For additional privacy, consider using a VPN.
Can I use eSIM in China?
Yes, we offer eSIM plans for mainland China. Note that some international services (Google, WhatsApp, Instagram) are blocked in China by the Great Firewall. A VPN can help access these services, but VPN usage may be restricted. Our China eSIM provides regular internet access subject to local regulations.
Can I use WhatsApp with my eSIM?
Yes! WhatsApp works perfectly with eSIM data. You can send messages, make voice calls, and video calls over your eSIM data connection. WhatsApp uses your home phone number (on your physical SIM), so your contacts don't need a new number.
Does eSIM work in airplane mode?
When airplane mode is on, all wireless connections (including eSIM) are disabled. However, you can turn airplane mode on and then manually re-enable cellular data for just your eSIM line — this lets you use data while keeping your home SIM's calls and SMS off, which is great for avoiding roaming charges.
How do I switch between eSIM and physical SIM?
Go to Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data on iPhone or Settings > Connections > SIM Manager on Samsung. You can set which line to use for data, and your phone can have both lines active simultaneously — physical SIM for calls and eSIM for data.
How fast is eSIM data speed?
eSIM connects to the same 4G LTE and 5G networks used by local carriers. Typical speeds range from 30-100+ Mbps on 4G and up to 500+ Mbps on 5G, depending on your destination and carrier. This is more than enough for streaming, video calls, and browsing.
Can I share eSIM data as a hotspot?
Yes, most eSIM plans support personal hotspot / tethering. You can share your eSIM data with other devices (laptop, tablet, family members' phones) by enabling the Personal Hotspot feature in your phone settings.
How do I top up my eSIM data?
If you run out of data, simply purchase a new eSIM plan on MyeSIM and install it. You can add multiple eSIM profiles to your phone. The new plan starts immediately, giving you fresh data without removing your existing eSIM.
Is eSIM better than pocket WiFi?
For most travelers, yes. eSIM is 50-80% cheaper, requires no extra device to carry or charge, connects directly to 4G/5G networks for faster speeds, and has no return logistics. Pocket WiFi may be better only if your phone doesn't support eSIM or you need to connect many devices simultaneously.
How many eSIM plans can I install on my phone?
Most modern phones can store 5-8 eSIM profiles, though only 1-2 can be active at a time. iPhone 16 supports up to 8 profiles. You can easily add, switch, and delete profiles as needed for different trips and destinations.
Do I need to unlock my phone for eSIM?
Your phone needs to be unlocked (not carrier-locked) to use third-party eSIM plans. Phones purchased outright or fully paid off are usually unlocked. Contact your carrier to check lock status or request an unlock if needed.
