eSIM Compatible Phones 2026: Complete Device List & How to Check

A comprehensive list of all eSIM-compatible phones, tablets, and smartwatches in 2026 — plus how to check if your specific device supports eSIM.

eSIM Compatibility in 2026

In 2026, the vast majority of smartphones sold worldwide support eSIM. Apple pioneered mass adoption starting with the iPhone XS in 2018, and by 2024 removed the physical SIM tray entirely from US iPhones. Samsung, Google, and other manufacturers have followed suit, making eSIM the new standard.

However, not every phone supports eSIM, and compatibility depends on both hardware and carrier lock status. A phone might have eSIM hardware but be locked to a specific carrier that doesn't allow third-party eSIM profiles. This guide covers every angle.

The simplest way to check: dial *#06# on your phone. If an EID (Embedded Identity Document) number appears alongside your IMEI, your phone has eSIM hardware. But read on for specific device lists and carrier lock considerations.

Apple Devices with eSIM Support

iPhone: XS, XS Max, XR (2018) and ALL newer models support eSIM. iPhone 14 and later models sold in the US are eSIM-only (no physical SIM tray). iPhone 16 series supports up to 8 eSIM profiles with 2 active simultaneously.

iPad: iPad Pro (3rd gen, 2018+), iPad Air (3rd gen, 2019+), iPad Mini (5th gen, 2019+), and iPad (7th gen, 2019+) — all cellular models support eSIM. Great for giving kids independent data on family trips without needing a hotspot.

Apple Watch: Series 3 (2017) and later with cellular capability support eSIM. Useful for runners and hikers who want to leave their phone behind but stay connected. Requires carrier support for standalone cellular.

Mac: MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with Apple Silicon (M1 and later) do NOT have eSIM — only cellular-equipped iPads and iPhones do. Use iPhone hotspot for laptop connectivity abroad.

Samsung Devices with eSIM

Galaxy S series: S20, S21, S22, S23, S24, S25 — all support eSIM. Note that some carrier-specific variants may have eSIM disabled (especially older S20/S21 models from certain carriers). Unlocked models always support eSIM.

Galaxy Z series (foldables): Z Fold 2, Z Fold 3, Z Fold 4, Z Fold 5, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 3, Z Flip 4, Z Flip 5, Z Flip 6 — all support eSIM. Samsung's foldables have embraced eSIM from early generations.

Galaxy A series: eSIM support is limited in the budget A series. Galaxy A54 5G and A55 support eSIM in select regions, but many A-series models do not. Check your specific model before relying on eSIM for travel.

Galaxy Tab: Galaxy Tab S9 series (cellular models) support eSIM. Older Tab models generally do not. Samsung Watch 4 and newer with LTE also support eSIM.

Google Pixel & Other Android Devices

Google Pixel: Pixel 3, 3a, 4, 4a, 5, 5a, 6, 6a, 6 Pro, 7, 7a, 7 Pro, 8, 8a, 8 Pro, 9, 9 Pro, Pixel Fold — ALL support eSIM. Google is one of the strongest eSIM advocates and enables it across their entire lineup including budget models.

Motorola: Razr (2019+), Razr+, Edge series (2022+). OnePlus: OnePlus 12 and newer. Xiaomi: 12T Pro, 13 series, 14 series. OPPO: Find X5 and newer. Sony: Xperia 1 IV, 5 IV, 10 IV and newer.

Huawei: P40, P50, Mate 40 and newer support eSIM hardware, BUT Huawei phones without Google Play Services may have limitations with some eSIM providers. Check compatibility with your specific eSIM provider before purchase.

How to Check Your Phone's eSIM Support

iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About. Scroll down to find 'Available SIM' — if it shows an EID number, your phone supports eSIM. Alternatively, go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM. If this option exists, you're ready.

Samsung: Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager. If you see 'Add eSIM' or 'Download SIM,' your phone supports it. You can also dial *#06# and look for an EID number in the results.

Google Pixel: Go to Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > + (Add). If 'Download a SIM instead' appears, eSIM is supported. Pixel phones purchased unlocked almost always have eSIM enabled.

What If My Phone Doesn't Support eSIM?

If your phone doesn't support eSIM, you have alternatives: buy a local physical SIM at your destination, rent a pocket WiFi device, or use a portable eSIM dongle that creates a WiFi hotspot from an eSIM plan.

Planning your next phone upgrade? Choose an eSIM-compatible model for future travel convenience. All flagship phones from 2022 onwards support eSIM, and it's becoming standard even in mid-range devices.
